By Sharon Matambanadzo

Before 1918, only men were allowed to vote and women were not. It is now fair to say that women can do a lot more than they could before the first world war. The Eighth of March has now become an anual celebration for all the achievements that women over the years have accomplished.

Women such as Oprah Winfrey can be admired for their contribution to human rights foundations. Miss Winfrey has become one of the most successful and inspirational women not only for black people but also for women all over the world. She is truly a superwoman.

Political figures such as Margaret Thatcher have also become inspirations for women to strive harder as political ambassador’s. Her determination and courage to stand along with some of the most powerful men in the world made Mrs Thatcher one of the most feared and respected figures women in the history of British politics.

In sport, athletes like South African 800m runner Caster Semenya became a respectable figure after overcoming claims that she was in fact a man because of her physical appearance and her success in the Beijing Olympics. This was highly controversial and it highlighted the cruelty of this ‘man’s world’ that we are living in.

Being a professional in a man’s world can be very challenging however, university student Ashleen Hylton said “Women have more creativity than men and therefore they are able to achieve more”. Indeed women are different to men and without us, the world would just not go round.

I caught up with two coventry students who love changing the colour of their hair and keeping up with trends.

I asked them both the same question; ” What colour will you be dying your hair this summer?”

Britons are well known for their outrageous nights in the pub smoking too many cigarettes. If you thought raunchy adverts exposing the consequences of tobacco could put a Brit off, researchers thought wrong. Smoking is becoming an increasing problem, especially with the NHS and efforts to try and help people quit are becoming more creative.

Electric cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular for smokers who have failed to stick to a smoke free programme or simply stuck in the habit of placing a cigarette in their mouth. The new, clever cigarette that simply exhales smoke whilst inhaling only the nicotine is proving to gradually help smokers stay smoke free and tricks the body into thinking they are smoking.

Coventry have their own electric cigarette stand inside West Orchards that brings you different flavours, replacement batteries and great offers that could save you money!

I went al0ng with my fellow reporter, Kevin Asare, and got a brief interview with Amanda who was able to explain in more about these ‘wonder sticks’.

It can be very hard to be patriotic when you’re a Welsh national living in England, especially when people around the world think they’re all the same thing.

Today is St David’s day and many Welsh people in Wales and in England are out celebrating the St patriot as well as today being the first day of spring.

Coventry Student, Jessica Charles said how she would miss being home where at this time of the year, her and her family “would be gathering together and joining in a feast to commemorate the national holiday”.

Slough teacher Darren Nicholas told us how even though he has lived in England for many years, Welsh culture is still very much a part of him and his pride came through “Wales are the superior race.” Also joining in the celebrations were Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall.

Kamelion will be performing live

The 20 year old talented young singer/songwriter from Rhyl, in North Wales and performs under the name Kameelion. In early 2011, when he was just 18, he started writing/recording my own songs and got discovered and signed up by a top London manager named Albert Samuel. With quotes such as “Pet Shop Boys meets Calvin Harris”; his catchy melodies and honest meaningful lyrics makes 20 year old Kameelion a certain radio-ready act to watch out for in 2012 and is destined for chart success.
