Black Friday 2017: Preparing for the Big Day

With so many whispers about Black Friday it’s difficult not to start looking for the best deals. Coventry locals are gearing up for the annual shopping bonanza which will see one of the busiest shopping days of the year take place. On November 24th, people will be queuing for hours outside the shops in the hope of stealing the best deals.

Whilst some stores are saving their top deals for the big day, some retailers have already revealed their Black Friday deals, which we’ve rounded up for you in preparation for the day.

Argos have already released some of their Black Friday deals in a 14-day event with exclusive deals and prices. They also have a Black Friday price promise meaning that if they ever have lower prices than these offers—they will refund the difference.

Many of the big deals will go live at midnight so it may be worth setting your alarms and reserving items before going to the store to avoid the disappointment of items not being in stock.

Argos will also honour their Black Friday prices as long as you have reserved it at that price, so make sure you get on the website early.

Amy Fuller, customer service manager at Argos, spoke to us about the busiest day of the year. “Last year the store had to close for about an hour because the system went down due to the number of shoppers we had. Best tip for shoppers would be to shop online using fast track as it’s only a 60 second wait in store to pick their items up. One of our best deals would be the Amazon Echo Dot for £34.99 and a lot of our other electrical items are on offer”.

Coventry has 2 local Argos stores: City Arcade and Gallagher retail park.

Currys/PC World

Currys have already kicked off their Black Friday deals in store and online whilst offering free next day delivery. With a wide range of tech and house appliances on offer, it’s definitely time to stock up on the essentials!

They have also put together a Black Friday survival guide, so if you’re wanting to find out the best excuses for shopping and the top queuing tips then check it out on their website now.

As well as a handy countdown, they are preparing their shoppers for Black Friday now so get online to see which offers you can bag.

You can find your local Currys PC World in the Alvis retail park and on London Road.

Debenhams are also taking part in Black Friday by offering their best deals online from their customer’s favourite brands. It is unclear whether these offers will be available in store though—as they’re mostly promoting online offers.

Whilst Friday will see their top deals, they will also be offering deals starting from Monday 20th.

Coventry’s local Debenhams store is located in West Orchards – which also features other key retailers.

Supermarkets will also be taking part in Black Friday this year with Tesco claiming to have the best deals on electricals, toys and more. They have also promoted their ‘superb’ Cyber Monday deals.

Sainsburys are also set to cut prices on their electrical goods across their 450 stores so check on their store locator, to see which store is closest to you.

There is both a Tesco and Sainsburys in Coventry’s city centre so the deals are never too far away.

Whilst there are thousands of deals all over the country, it is also important to take safety precautions when going out shopping on this extremely busy day.

With crowds forming and queues getting out of control, safety guards are forced to take precautions to make sure no one gets hurt.

Fights have been known to break out in stores whilst people are competing to get the best deals, and it doesn’t always end well. With items going out of stock quickly and crowds of people setting their sights on the same item, people will be left disappointed on the day.

We spoke to Sales Assistant Gemma Jackman who told us how the employees feel about the big day. “Black Friday is the day every sales assistant dreads. Clients are always stressed; pushing and shoving and all manners go down the drain. It’s like the people are no longer people, but wild boars with only themselves in mind”.

Shopping centres and shops will be ensuring everyone is kept safe by keeping control of crowds entering stores.

So, make sure you get yourself online or down to the city centre on November 25th to get some of the best bargains of the year!
