Champions Of Champions Set To Return In 2018

The Snooker Champion of Champions tournament and Coventry Ricoh Arena signed a new three-year agreement, which means that this competition will be held in Coventry at least until 2020.

The 2013 season snooker tournament added a new event – Champion of Champions tournament. Replacing the Super League, the Champion of Champions tournament invites the competition winners from the past one and a half seasons to become the new top Invitational racing accord with the Masters.

14 contestants are the championship winners from the past one and a half season, as well as two other wild card players were invited to compete. According to the rules of the game, 16 players are divided into 4 groups, a group member is matched against each other and the two winners compete for an outlet quota. Then the 4 team winners have elimination matches until the ultimate champion wins the tournament.

The winner of Champion of Champions tournament in the first two years was Ronnie O’Sullivan. Neal Robertson and John Higgins won the champion respectively in 2015 and 2016.In the 2017 tournament, the defending champion John Higgins, world champion Mark Selby, “Rocket” Ronnie O’Sullivan, Ding Junhui, Fu Jiajun and other top players had ensured their qualification. For them, the good news was that this year’s the total prize money of Champion of Champions tournament reached £370,000, an increase of 70,00 more than last year’s prize.

In the final, O’Sullivan once saved 3 match points, then 10 lost to Murphy. Murphy won the first Champion of Champions tournament in his occupation career and gained £100,000 in prize money.

Ricoh Arena is the home court stadium field of the Coventry football club. Located in Coventry, West Midlands and covering more than 40 acres which include one football stadium with 32,609 spectators, one 6,000 square meters’ exhibition hall, one hotel, one leisure club and a casino, it is formerly known as the ” Janis Hill Natural Gas Plant”.

The Japanese company Ricoh has ten-year naming rights after signed £10 million sponsorship contract. On February 24, 2007, Dame Kelly Holmes and sports minister Richard Caborn presided over the official opening of Ricoh Arena. The Champion of Champions tournament is set to take place at the Ricoh Arena next year.
