Music superstar Ed Sheeran has returned to release his new album, titled “÷”, his first since 2014’s “x”. Two songs from the album (‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Shape of You’) have already been released as singles to promote the album, both debuting on 6th January 2017. The album will be released on 3rd March, with the album being produced by Steve Mac (known for his work with One Direction, Susan Boyle and others) and Benny Blanco (whose writing credits include songs for Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5 and more).

Both ‘Castle on the Hill’ and ‘Shape of You’ have broke new Spotify records, with the former being streamed 6.1 million times and the latter being streamed 6.8 million times. These numbers have been collected by Sheeran’s record label, Warner Music, while both of Sheeran’s songs defeat One Direction’s reign as the artist with the most single-day streams for an individual track with their song ‘Drag Me Down’.

It is speculated that Sheeran will headline the Saturday night of Glastonbury Festival 2017 (recent Saturday headliners include the Rolling Stones, Kanye West, Metallica and Adele), with Foo Fighters closing the festival the night after. Radiohead have already been confirmed as the Friday headline act.

It has also emerged that Sheeran will appear as a guest on James Corden’s famous ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment, which in the past has featured celebrities such as Britney Spears, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder and First Lady Michelle Obama. Sheeran has also revealed that he intends to cover the late rapper Notorious B.I.G during his cameo with Corden.

Sheeran also tweeted the track listing for his new album today (12th January), which will contain a total of twelve songs.
