HomeNEWSLOCALFaded shopping centre looks set for an upgrade January 30, 2015 LOCAL By Kevin Boateng Cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre in Coventry has been sold to a property group with plans to revamp the site. The Shearer Property Group, which is based in London, has purchased the site for an estimated £6 million. The group plans to modernise the building, by adding a second floor to facilitate make space for a new restaurant, as well as replacing the wall bricks with glass. Councillors have agreed to invest taxpayers’ money to support the project. The shopping centre was once labelled as a new generation over 25 years ago. But the managing director of Shearer Property Group, Guy Shearer, described it as ‘‘largely vacant’’. The leader of Coventry City Council, Ann Lucas, said: ‘‘Partners like these will play a key part in our work to make Coventry great again.’’ The group plans to complete the project by December 2015.
