Best F1 Drivers from Finland Ever

With the recent development that Valterri Bottas has moved to Mercedes Formula One Team, iCov has decided to take a look back over past Finnish racing drivers to hit the peak of Formula One.

Keke Rosberg –

  1. Originally born in Finland, Keke Rosberg was the forefather of Finnish top flight racing in Formula One. He entered the sport with Wolf Racing but left due to the car being unreliable. Rosberg advanced to the dominant force of Williams, where he achieved his one and only title with only one victory!

Hekki Kovalainen

  1. Hekki Kovalainen started out with World Championship team Renault in 2007 and received a considerable upgrade the following season where he switched to the historic McLaren team. Kovalainen had a torrid time at the Woking based team, achieving just the one victory in his two-year spell as the current three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton regularly outperformed him.

Kimi Raikkonen

  1. Having entered the sport in 2001 with Sauber, Raikkonen quickly earned promotion to McLaren before winning the title with Ferrari in 2007. Raikkonen’s title win was an unlikely one as he trailed substantially heading into the final two rounds. He managed to beat Fernando Alonso, who was gunning for his third consecutive title and hot rookie Lewis Hamilton. Kimi Raikonnen continues to impress spectators in F1 today and has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Mika Hakkinnen

  1. Arguably the only driver to really mount a challenge to Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinnen drove for McLaren throughout the late Nineties. With a very aggressive driving style, Hakkinnen drove flat out and aggressively pulling off many stunning overtakes. His driving eventually led him to two world titles in 1998 and 1999.
