Housing First: changing the way we tackle homelessness

Finland is one of the few countries in our world that has a declining homeless rate. In 2007 the government commissioned research to be done on the effectiveness of their homeless policies. It was concluded that the policy was not working, a new way to combat homelessness had to be developed. Since that time Finland has experienced decreasing numbers of homeless people living in the streets of Finland, this is down to the Finish 2008 policy of Housing First.

Juha Kaakinen, CEO of the Y-Foundation which oversees the Housing First project spoke to iCov to tell us more. We discover just how the Finish model has been successful in ridding Finland of Homelessness.
