Instagrammers snap Coventry in the dark

By Rhiannon Everton

Instagrammers are coming together to photograph what life is like in Coventry – at 5am.

The group Igers Coventry and Warwickshire, known as @igerscoventry on the social media site Instagram, has organised an “instameet” on Saturday 31 January 2015.

Instagram users have arranged to meet at the BBC Coventry and Warwickshire studios, where the team behind @igerscoventry will be giving an interview on air with the presenter. The amateur photographers from Coventry, Bedworth and Warwick will then embark on a route around Coventry.

They plan to document Coventry in the early morning, encompassing the local historic sites such as the cathedral, making sure they tag their pictures ♯igerscoventry.

The instameet works in conjunction with a 24-hour BBC broadcast, aiming to discover more about Coventry nightlife.

Siobhan Harrison, who is in charge of events at the radio station, said they wanted to learn more about what goes on in Coventry at that time.

“We have teams working with emergency services, kebab shops and clubs as well as taxi ranks,” she said.

The special broadcast starts on 30 January will run through the night with reporters and the public contributing from all over Coventry and Warwickshire.

The instameet has been given an enthusiastic reception with one follower, @dorotycake, commenting “Sounds great!” and another, @clickychic_,  saying she will try to take “lots of pictures of yawns”.
