‘It’s time to shout about our fantastic city’

Coventry is in the race for the City of Culture Bid 2021.

After a visit from the judging panel on Thursday 19 October, we caught up with Laura McMillan, manager of Coventry City of Culture Trust, to find out how it went.

Our iCov reporter, Tatenda Munzara spoke to Ms McMillan on the the significance of the bid and what it would mean for the city. She goes on to explain how our diverse, young city is already showing signs of multiculturalism and excelling in arts programmes.

Although nothing has specifically been done by the company in honour of Black History Month, it has supported the Herbert Art Gallery’s events and is making progress planning its next event with Changing Tracks and the Positive Youth Foundation. The concert featuring six young artists and over thirty classical musicians, will take place at Warwick Arts Centre at Butterworth Hall.

The city hopes to support a large variety of cultures and cultural projects rather than focusing on a particular genre. We can also hear about the short term and long term affects this bid could have on schools and the younger generation.

McMillan encourages everybody to watch the official bid video which, can be found here:
