HomeNews DayNew Train Station in the Stockingford Area for the First Time in 50 Years January 19, 2017 News Day, NEWS DAY Proposed Location of the New Station Warwickshire Council have decided to move ahead with the development of a new train station in West Nuneaton. Work on the new station is intended to be done incrementally, with station designs, timetable modelling and risk assessments all to be done within the financial year of 2017/18 to the cost of £50k. The earliest feasible completion of the station being in 2023. The station is said to be located at Kingswood Road. A mile away from the former station which went by Stockingford and was closed on March 4 1968. The estimated total cost of the project by 2016 prices is £11.4m with the estimated cost of the construction in 2023 reaching £14m. The accuracy of these estimates depending on the marketing conditions at the time an after detailed design and costing work. The Kingswood Road station will consist of Northbound and Southbound platforms, linked via footbridge with pedestrian and cycle routes which will lead to both Kingswood Road and Whittleford Road as well as a car park which can hold 50. The station is estimated to have 56,339 passenger journeys per annum by 2023 and an estimated 166,611 by 2046. The station is also said to result in the saving of 520,000 road vehicle kilometres by 2023, rising to 1.5m km in 2029.
