HomeNEWSLOCALSamurai incident in Broadgate shocks Coventry April 11, 2016 LOCAL Police and ambulance staff were called to Broadgate in Coventry city centre this lunchtime after reports of a Samurai incident. Reports on Facebook page Spotted: Coventry City suggested that a man knelt down in the popular and busy city centre square and stabbed himself with a sword. These reports, however, have not been entirely confirmed by emergency services. A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 12.05pm. One ambulance attended and treated a male patient and he was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.” It was confirmed by a police spokesperson that the man has been detained under the mental health act and is being supported by the relevant agencies. It was also said that he suffered only minor injuries. An image circulating shows a topless man handcuffed on the floor with two police officers over him – with what seems to be a sword further away.
