The annual Coventry and Warwick Varsity sports tournament is not far away now, and Coventry’s teams are turning up the tempo. With the men’s and women’s basketball tipping things off at 7pm on 30 January, the competition between the two universities is getting ever closer.

Nearly all sports societies are represented in the competition, which should
make it easy for you to catch an event.

The final event takes place on 7 February with the men’s ice hockey in the Planet Ice.

According to the Coventry student union website, all tickets for the ice hockey and basketball are sold out.

However, there are many other events that you can attend for free, including netball and football.

Netball president Daisy Roberts said her team had been putting in extra skill and fitness drills to get ready for the big day.

“As president I do feel a lot of pressure going into the games. We did well last year, winning all three games, and want to ensure that the girls do the same this year.”

She said the team would be going to other Varsity events.

“We’re going to see the basketball opener, some of the rugby games and also the ice hockey finale. We also go to as many events as we can as a club. Showing support to the other teams is a priority.”
