18-year-old Canadian Lance Stroll will make his Formula 1 debut with Williams Formula 1 team in 2017.

The teenager, who currently races in the European Formula 3 championship, had been heavily rumoured to join the Williams F1 Team for a number of months.

Stroll who won 14 out of the 30 races this season was crowned champion in the series and will partner current Williams driver Valtteri Bottas in his rookie season.

Stroll is not the youngest driver to enter the sport; current Red Bull driver Max Verstappen made his debut at 17-years-old in 2015 for Toro Rosso.

Stroll has prepared for his debut with a series of tests in past Williams F1 cars.

Father Lawrence Stroll has said he deserves his spot as a result of his achievements in the lower Formula’s.

Lawrence also said Lance had earned the spot through his ability and not his wealthy background.

Stroll’s first drive will be in February 2017 at the pre-season test in Barcelona.
