Transgender Student Set To Take The Miss Coventry Crown

17 year old transgender contestant is competing to win Miss Coventry beauty pageant.

Henley College student, Jordan Davis is the first transgender contestant to compete in the Miss Coventry competition and only the second regional transgender contestant in the history of Miss England.

Davis, 17, lived as a boy up until just a year ago, and since has said she is firm on making her mark of this year’s competition, though during the pageant she has been subject to many death threats.

The Radford resident has reached the Miss Coventry final, triumphing over 300 girls in the city.

Though she only found out about her success just under a week ago, Davis has been subject to horrendous cyber-bullying from those who disapprove of her gender transformation, threatening to kill her.

However, though it has been a tough time for the Henley college student, she has used the negativity to strengthen herself and become an advocate for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community.

The Coventry teen says: “I wanted to give a voice, provide advocacy, and become a role model for the transgender community.”

‘I have threatened to drop out several times because of the abuse I have received on social networking sites. I have to close my askfm account down because I was getting death threats. I was expecting it, but I wasn’t expecting it to be quite as devastating”

“I felt it was important to make a stand. To say you can define beauty in many ways. You don’t have to look or be a certain way to be beautiful.’

Davis encourages those in similar positions to her to follow in her footsteps and take a stand against those who are opposed to the choices they make.

Davis continues by saying: “I may not have been born a girl, but I am no less female than the rest of the girls in the competition.

The competition has given me self-confidence, and helped with my self-image and self worth. This experience has taught me to learn to love myself, a skill that has proven invaluable to me and my fellow competitors”

The Miss Coventry Final is set to be held on Saturday 22nd March, at Bedworth Liberal Club from 7pm. The winner will then go on to compete for the Miss England Crown.

Tickets cost £20 for adults and £5 for children, which can be purchased by calling 07967818439
